Growth engine Airport Region Berlin Brandenburg

Berlin, 22 February 2024 – A cross-border and vibrant economic region that stretches from the bustling centre of Berlin to the south of the region and the municipalities surrounding the airport in Brandenburg - that is the Airport Region Berlin Brandenburg. TheEconomic Development Agency Brandenburg and Berlin Partner für Wirtschaft und Technologie are currently running a joint settlement office directly at BER, in the name of the “Airport Region Team” (ART), which aims to strengthen the economy in the airport region.

The airport is a growth engine for the region. In addition to Tesla Grünheide, other major international companies, SMEs and a vibrant start-up community have settled here, offering new companies outstanding opportunities for cooperation and access to excellent industry and scientific networks. The metropolitan region is one of the leading international locations in the healthcare industry, and is also home to important industrial companies in the battery, vehicle construction, chemical and metal industries. Berlin and Brandenburg are among the leading European locations for engine development and production in particular, showcasing global market leaders such as Rolls-Royce Deutschland, MTU Maintenance and Lufthansa.

The high quality of life thanks to the nearby nature, coupled with economic strength and innovative dynamism, makes the region a unique place in Germany: The region is something special: Brandenburg as an industrial state, the global metropolis of Berlin at the heart of it and unique people with a special openness and tolerance. That certainly makes the capital region an attractive location on the global scene,'' says Nadine Jüdes, head  of the Digital Economy / Startups department at Berlin Partner für Wirtschaft und Technologie.

The Airport Region Team (ART) provides information about available commercial space, helps to arrange it, show financing and funding opportunities and provides support in the search for skilled labour. Around 50 companies, local authorities and business development organisations have joined forces in the 'Brand Alliance' with the goal of promoting growth in the Airport Region, creating sustainable jobs and improving the quality of life. Over the past ten years, the cross-state team has supported over 1,000 projects in Berlin and Brandenburg in this context.

The ART markets the airport region worldwide at trade fairs, conferences and other business events, this year those have included the ILA in June, the IST World Congress in September in Dubai and the TechWeek in Los Angeles in October. The ILA aerospace exhibition will be a notable highlight for the Berlin Brandenburg Airport region in 2024 In addition to traditional aviation, players from the field of drone technology are increasingly conquering the market.
