Annual Report 2021

Berlin is yet again looking to beat records! This is demonstrated, among other things, by the news that the amazing sum of 10.5 billion Euro was invested in Berlin start-ups last year.

This new high is no accident, but the result of hard work by all involved. The business founders in Berlin were never intimidated by setbacks and the team around managing director, Dr. Stefan Franzke, is also very pleased that Berlin Partner has received international awards for the best existing customer support, digital applications and specialization in cleantech (fDi Strategy Award) and that the Business Immigration Service has also received the Benchmark rating (Harvard Business Review). The past two years have presented Berlin's economy and entrepreneurs with major challenges. However, large parts of Berlin's economy proved to be creative and resilient throughout the crisis, given the extraordinary circumstances and the expected dramatic effects of the isolation measures. They continued to deliver results in 2021, which now allow us to look to the future with optimism.

This is also reflected in the Berlin Partner balance sheet: the 290 projects that Berlin Partner successfully supported and completed last year alone created 6708 new jobs - which is roughly the same level as in 2016. In doing so, the companies are investing around 637.8 million Euro. Berlin's reputation as a center of innovation remains strong, both at home and abroad, among companies, investors and talent. Last year, Berlin Partner again attracted 83 companies (45 of them from abroad) to Berlin. The largest of the international settlements comes from Europe, followed by North and South America, the Middle East and Asia.
