Capital City Conference on Electromobility at Berlin City Hall

The number of charging points for electric cars in Berlin has reached a new high. According to Stromnetz Berlin, there are currently around 28,000 charging points installed in the capital. Of these, 4,200 are publicly accessible, all others are used privately, i.e. at home or at work. In order to meet the constantly increasing demand for charging capacity and to drive expansion even more comprehensively, Berlin is also pushing for expansion in private areas, as this is where around 80% of charging processes take place. A corresponding catalogue of measures is set out in the “Overall charging infrastructure strategy 2030 for the State of Berlin”. According to the Federal motor transport authority (KBA), almost 72,000 vehicles in Berlin were electrically powered in the first quarter of 2024 – including around 2,350 heavy commercial vehicles and 230 buses.

These and other topics will be the focus of this year's Capital conference on electromobility on 3 July 2024 in Berlin City Hall. Around 700 participants have registered for the on-site presence and the live stream, and 25 contributors from business, science and politics will discuss the expansion of the charging infrastructure, potential for e-trucks and sustainable mobility in districts. Among others, the Senator for Economics, Energy and Public Enterprises, Franziska Giffey, and the new Senator for Mobility, Transport, Climate protection and the Environment, Ute Bonde, will be present. The keynote speech by Prof. Helena Wisbert, Director of the Centre for Automotive Research, will address the topic “The future of electromobility - a global perspective”.

The Capital City Conference on Electromobility has been organised by the Berlin Agency for Electromobility eMO once a year in Berlin City Hall since 2011.
