ICT, Media and Creative Industries Cluster - Looking Ahead

The ICT, Media and Creative Industries Cluster (Cluster IMK) stands for growth in the capital region. The COVID-19 pandemic has put the digitization of the economy under the microscope as well as the spotlight. What has worked? What didn't and where can we improve? Together with our partners from business, science and administration, the IMK cluster is facing this challenge and this great opportunity. With a constant look ahead, the goal is to use sustainable technological advances and creativity for the economy and, above all, for the benefit of the citizens. The human being is in the foreground. Information and communication technologies in particular can create additional value in life, science, business and administration. We support, network and accompany people who realize their ideas here at our location. Berlin and Brandenburg stand for strength in implementation.

Innovation fields of a startup capital

In the innovation fields of the cluster Artificial Intelligence (AI), Blockchain, Internet of Things (IoT), Information Security, Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), Extended Reality (XR) as well as Design & Usability, the aim is to achieve top positions. Around each innovation field, an ecosystem of excellent research, SMEs, large companies and the lively startup scene is formed. According to the current Startup Heatmap 2021, Berlin has replaced London as the top location and is now the most attractive location for startups in Europe. This rank must be maintained and expanded. The IMK cluster works together with networks and associations, competence centers, hubs, labs and institutes as well as universities and research institutions. Together, communities are being built to achieve international visibility and attract talent from around the world to the capital region. As a result, 170 different nations are represented at our location. 78% of all students in the capital region are bilingual and every fifth startup is founded by a New Berliner (Migrant Founders Monitor 2021).

Thematic fields such as film, TV & broadcasting, games, animation, VFX, web, virtual, augmented or mixed reality, as well as social media and the advertising industry are part of the DNA of the ICT, media and creative industries cluster. The capital region has been able to position itself internationally thanks to its excellent infrastructure in the areas of film and TV outstanding production and cooperation conditions. Over 300 internationally successful films are produced each year. The creative industries stand for the creative power of change that moves us forward socially and economically. It is considered an important source of impetus in the cluster. Here, the cluster works in a complementary manner and in close coordination with the Berlin Senate Department for Economics, Energy and Operations and the Ministry for Economics, Labor and Energy of the State of Brandenburg.
