Federal University of Applied Administrative Sciences

Dr. Julia Neuhaus, Dean, Federal University of Applied Administrative Sciences

1. Describe your company in a tweet.

What we can do?! #Reha, #Pension and #Insurance. In the Department of Social Insurance at the Federal University of Applied Sciences, we strengthen the next generation of pension insurers in Berlin and thus ensure the social security of society. #DRVBund #CampusRohrdamm #Social Law.

2. Why are you involved as a Berlin-Partner?

With its attractive teaching and learning opportunities, the Department of Social Insurance should become more visible in the capital's academic landscape as one of the few locations of the Federal University of Applied Sciences in Berlin. With our location in Spandau's Siemensstadt - not far from Siemensstadt Square, the place of the future - we not only locate ourselves locally in an inspiring environment, but at the same time set our focus on the future. More presence is the key to networking in a world in which the challenges of our time can only be solved together.

3. What issues drive you in relation to your industry?

Demographic change affects us as a place of science and a talent pool for pension insurance providers in two ways: more and more people are retiring - this increases the amount of work on the one hand and also affects the employees of pension insurance providers on the other. Our goal is to use digitisation for teaching and research and to shape the future together with existing knowledge and continue with new ideas. Well-trained junior staff, an attractive teaching environment for the scientific apparatus and good service quality for later employees are both a challenge and a goal of the time.

4. What makes Berlin special for you?

Berlin is the science city of Germany. In Berlin there is an expert for every question - and we are part of the whole with a very special know-how.

5. What does Berlin stand for?

As a melting pot of cultures, ideas and visions, Berlin is a centre of attraction for people from all over Germany and even from all over the world. Together, we create a basis here for securing generations with an open mind for new perspectives - the capital is the ideal place for this.

6. How does your company implement the topic of sustainability?

Security for generations is the mission statement of DRV Bund, one of the sponsors of the Social Insurance Department at the Federal University of Applied Sciences. With our services, we contribute to social and economic security in the capital and throughout Germany.

By transferring the discourse on sustainable ecological and social responsibility to us as an institution and to all our work units, we want to assume even greater responsibility in the sense of sustainability in the future and thus fulfil our social obligation to an even greater extent. In the sense of the intergenerational contract, the lasting balance of the ecological, social and economic systems is central for us. For this reason, the DRV Bund is committed to acting in a sustainable, responsible manner - this is thus naturally also reflected in the specialist area

We identified key sustainability aspects of our business activities for the first time in 2020. Building on this, the sustainability mission statement and three overarching sustainability aspirations were developed in a participatory manner with the involvement of specialists and managers by the summer of 2021:

  • We will be greenhouse gas neutral by 2030.
  • We will reduce our consumption of resources.
  • We are aligning our procurement sustainably.

The sustainability management established in autumn 2021 plans and coordinates the sustainability activities of the DRV Bund and initiates the implementation of the necessary measures.

Although there is currently no legal obligation to achieve climate neutrality by 2030, Deutsche Rentenversicherung Bund is taking a forward-looking and responsible approach to the Federal Government's requirements for sustainable administrative action. By 2030, the federal administration is to be organised in a climate-neutral way.
