Berlin drives sustainably

Berlin, 5 August 2024 - The objective is clear: Berlin should be climate-neutral by 2045 at the latest. The transport sector plays a decisive role here. The Senate Department for Economics, Energy and Public Enterprises is therefore supporting companies in switching to sustainable mobility solutions with the Economic Electromobility Support Programme (WELMO). With the new funding module “Corporate Mobility Management” (BMM), offers for employees can also be funded as of this year. The programme is aimed at small and medium-sized enterprises.

The new module includes the promotion of a wide range of mobility measures, such as the introduction of company bicycles, sharing offers, mobility budgets, bicycle parking facilities or mobility stations. Funding is provided for investment costs in facilities (buildings and equipment) and material costs for sharing and pooling offers. The funding amounts to 50% of the net investment costs up to a maximum of 10,000 euros per individual measure. In order to determine initially the potential and requirements for corporate mobility management in companies, the consultation and analysis for this is also eligible for funding.

Dr. Severin Fischer, State Secretary for Economic Affairs, Energy and Public Enterprises: “With our WELMO funding programme, we have been very successfully supporting the necessary electrification of commercial transport for years, which we need so that our city can become climate-neutral by 2045. The expansion of the programme to include a new funding module is intended to support companies in switching to sustainable and modern mobility. Companies can thus not only make an important contribution to climate protection
but also strengthen their attractiveness as an employer when recruiting talent for Berlin.”

Gernot Lobenberg, Head of the Berlin Agency for Electromobility eMO: “Switching to sustainable forms of mobility not only protects the environment. Mobility management that is tailored to the company’s needs reduces costs and has a positive effect on the company’s image and employee satisfaction. The new funding opportunities not only support Berlin SMEs in implementing electromobility and new mobility, but also help them to develop comprehensive and future-orientated mobility strategies.”

Information on the application process:
Small and medium-sized enterprises or self-employed persons are eligible to apply. The exact provisions can be found in the Funding guideline (3.4).
WELMO is implemented by IBB Business Team GmbH, a wholly owned subsidiary of the IBB Group. The application form and further information can be found here.

Wirtschaftsnahe Elektromobilität (WELMO) - Support for small and medium-sized companies in Berlin in the transition to electromobility
With its “Wirtschaftsnahe Elektromobilität” (WELMO) funding scheme, Berlin has been promoting commercial electric transportation since 2018. Funding is available for consulting sessions, electrically powered vehicles such as e-commercial vehicles, e-taxis and e-inclusive taxis, battery-powered small and light vehicles, e-scooters, pedelecs and S-pedelecs. Funding can also be requested for normal and fast charging infrastructure on private and private publicly accessible areas. WELMO has been in great demand since its launch. As at 31.07.2024, 6,050 e-vehicles (including 665 taxis), more than 1,900 charging points and around 170 electric mobility consultations had been requested. The scheme will run until the end of 2025.

All further information on the funding programme can be found at www.welmo.de.
