Positive Development in Berlin
Berlin, 3 March 2025 – Berlin Partner’s 2024 annual results for the capital are positive – in challenging times and despite the weakening economy nationwide. The results figures presented at an official press conference on 3 March 2025 underline the relevance of Berlin’s economic development agency for the development of the regional economy and the strengthening of networks within and across sectors. Last year, Berlin Partner successfully supported companies in 315 projects that will generate a total of 6715 new jobs and invest a total of 1.1 billion euros – that is both a record and a reason for confidence. This shows that future industries remain attractive in Berlin, offering prospects to companies and talents from all over the world and strengthening Berlin as an attractive place to live and work. Investments were particularly high in the ICT, media and creative industries (€473 million) and transport, mobility and logistics (€403 million).
As a business development agency, Berlin Partner supports companies, universities, research institutions and NPOs in their establishment as well as in networking in the region and internal development by means of suitable personnel or funding opportunities. The projects implemented by the companies and supported by Berlin Partner provide important impetus for the economy of the capital region. In this context, economists at Investitionsbank Berlin (IBB) have calculated additional investment and employment effects that will support Berlin’s gross domestic product by a total of 1.9 billion euros in the period from 2024 to 2026. The resulting additional value chain will increase public revenue by a total of 230 million euros over this period. To calculate these additional economic effects, the IBB economists used a macroeconomic model. This enables the assessment of economic measures and structural economic changes in the Berlin economy. In addition to projects for companies, Berlin Partner also supported a total of 107 projects in which around 144 million euros were raised for research and development. Berlin itself provided 36 million euros, the second largest share. An investment that pays off – thanks to numerous internationally renowned universities and research institutions, the city is one of the largest science regions in Europe.
It remains international. There is another particularly pleasing figure in this context: With the support of Berlin Partner, a total of 84 companies were able to settle in Berlin in 2024. 51 of them come from abroad – more precisely, 38% of the companies come from Europe, 15% from Africa, the Middle East, Asia and Oceania and 7% from North, Latin and South America. Their employees, just like the rest of the city’s citizens, stand for a diverse, multicultural and open social structure that characterises Berlin and which is the basic prerequisite for economic growth through qualified work. New settlements include the Japanese company Yamaha, HoloMedix.AI, Metacore from Finland and the German robotics start-up N Robotics GmbH. While Yamaha wants to build a new business area with electric vehicles such as e-bikes, HoloMedix.AI specialises in the development of wearables and AI-based software. Metacore, on the other hand, is a games development studio that was convinced by Berlin with its existing and promising games cluster. N Robotics GmbH utilises the Berlin location and the promising infrastructure that already exists in the field of robotics to develop innovations and individual solutions completely in-house.
Dr. Stefan Franzke, Managing Director of Berlin Partner sums it up: “In order to continue to score points in international competition, we also travelled a lot in 2024. That proved successful: More than 60 percent of the settlements last year came from abroad. We also see that the digital sector continues to drive growth in Berlin. This applies in particular to areas such as fintech, green tech, health tech and games. As business promoters, we want to be there for Berlin’s economy with good ideas, with our services and with help and advice. This is especially true for innovation-driven companies that rely heavily on research and development and thus invest in the future. The goal is still to become the number 1 innovation location in Europe.”
